Jericho Student Film Festival 2008
The Jericho Educational Foundation held its first student film festival on November 14th, 2008 in the High School Little Theater.
Twenty-three films were entered into competition and another twenty five Media Art students submitted their 1 minute ‘Shadow and Light’ video projects. In total, over 100 students participated in the writing, directing, editing and production of the festival’s films. The community strongly supported the event as turnout was beyond expectations. Family, friends and film lovers packed the house as local merchants and others purchased Sponsor Advertisements which were shown as the audience arrived.
Rebecca Gottesman’s Honor Society students sold candy, water and popcorn before the show and raised money for their cause as well. The theater and hallway were resplendent with red carpet runway and film-themed decorations.
The eight “best in category” winners were chosen by the Film Festival’s esteemed panel of film and arts industry professionals.
Special guest Sean Brogan addressed the audience and spoke about how his introduction to film-making at Jericho led him to be a film major at a local college. Mike Malkush, MS and HS teacher and other technology teachers were instrumental in supporting this fantastic event.
Money raised from the event will go into the JEF’s general fund to be used toward enhancing and enriching the educational excellence of the school district.

Jericho Educational Foundation Unveils Gift
The Jericho Educational Foundation held a ribbon ceremony to unveil its gift to the school district of two electronic scoreboards for the soccer and lacrosse fields. Among those who attended the ceremony were the school’s superintendent Hank Grishman, Assistant Superintendent Barbara Bauer, Curriculum Associate Nancy Sammis, and the JEF board. The girl’s varsity soccer team was present and thanked the JEF for its donation.
Many people worked tirelessly to organize the scoreboards. Jess Rudolph, member of the JEF board of trustees, said “We knew these scoreboards were needed after listening to many community members and parents. We wanted to enhance the district where we could. We couldn’t have done so without the tireless effort of Tim Almeida and his crew. The Feinstein family’s donation of steel as well as donations from several generous families helped make this gift possible.”
One parent commented on how much more enjoyable the games are now that “we can see the score and time from the stand.”
The JEF supports all interest of the students and helps to provide the best equipment possible so that the students do what they love to do – make great friends along with great memories that will last a lifetime.

The Little Theater Gets a Face Lift
The Little Theater, located in the high school, is used throughout the school year for student performances, meetings and other various events.
The Little Theater stands as one of the original and oldest facilities within the school and was in need of a major face lift. The JEF decided this would be our first project.
With financial contributions of approximately $27,500 plus services and materials donated by community members, we were able to modernize the facility by installing new curtains, carpet, moldings, and paint, as well as reburbish the floors and front stage facade.
The project was completed in May 2007.
